Alright. We all hear of people blaming things on Mercury in Retrograde. Because, admittedly, it’s a squirrely time. This Mercury in Retrograde runs from September 27 to October 18.
Cool. What does Mercury in Retrograde mean?!
Mercury (the planet) goes retrograde a few times a year for a few weeks at a time. It appears to be traveling backwards, but it isn’t, it just looks like it. This is said to make it feel like our lives are going backwards.
Mercury rules communication, thought processes, and self-expression. It also rules travel and technology. To put that all together, think of Mercury as your external filter, it aids in how you make sense of what is external to you and shapes how you formulate and communicate ideas.
Okay. Now, why does Mercury in Retrograde get a bad rap?
It manifests itself in some inconvenient ways. Miscommunications, misunderstandings, travel nuisances (delays, cancellations, etc.), and technological failures big and small. In a few weeks from now, you might look back on work you did and notice errors. Largely, it’s not a great time for making big decisions or starting projects.
Great, sounds awful. What’s it good for?
This is an excellent time for reviewing and reflecting, for embracing the “backwards” mentality. Have some work to go back over? Now is a great time to review it. Have some unfinished projects or goals? Focus on those. Perhaps there have been some established practices or routines that could use some consideration? Now is the perfect time to ponder.
You can make it easier!
Consider sloooowing down. When communicating, give yourself time to think and speak. This period of time, it can be more difficult to find the words to convey your message without being misunderstood. Put compassion and respect in the forefront your communication. If sending something, double and triple check your words and that you’re sending it to the right person. When traveling anywhere, give yourself some extra time in anticipation of delay. And now is an excellent time to back-up your computer and electronic devices.
And, what does “in Libra” mean?
An extra special layer is “in Libra.” This signifies that this Mercury in Retrograde will have a special focus on relationships and harmony (or disharmony 😬). Now is a good time to evaluate your relationships and the communication patterns that they have taken on. Where is there room for improvement? How can you communicate more effectively or respectfully?
