Fresh food. Make it easy. Feel better.

As a coach, I work with a number of people who feel deeply; empaths and highly sensitive persons (HSPs). Because of the way that sensitive people take in the world around them (sensory overload!), their energy can deplete rather quickly. Energy restoration isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

There are a number of ways a sensitive person can recoup. One way is through what they fuel their body with.

FOR THE LOVE OF DORITOS

I love Doritos. I will always love Doritos. I will never not eat Doritos. (And that’s coming from someone who has a dislike for the words "always" and "never.")

However, my body doesn’t feel good nourished by Doritos alone. I need Earth food, too. You know, food that comes straight from the Earth.

THE PANDEMIC (I know, that word, ugh…)

The pandemic brought about a great new habit in my household.

Prior to the pandemic, when I would go into the office every day, I got into the habit of meal prepping. I would prep my breakfast and lunch for the week so that they were grab-and-go and healthy.

However, with all of us home and no office to go to, I stopped. And, the pantry (you know, where all of the “good stuff” lives) was so very accessible. We needed easy Earth food, stat.

The trouble is, many of us buy Earth food with great intention. We buy the veggies and the fruit. Put them in the fridge or on the counter. And then let them go bad.

MAKE IT EASY

The single easiest way to ensure that you eat more fruits and veggies? Prep them! Have them ready to grab-n-go. If you wash them and cut them from the get-go, you’re most of the way to success.

This is my photo. This happened.

During the pandemic, I started prepping veggies every week, putting them into a container to snack on or include as easy sides for our meals. Routinely, each week, I prep bell peppers and cucumbers.

If I’m feeling fancy, I add radishes, broccoli, and cauliflower. We have a bag of baby carrots. And I’ll occasionally cut and wash some iceberg lettuce. (Don’t come at me with the “it has no nutritional value,” I like it.)

KNOW AND CARE FOR YOURSELF

As an HSP myself, I know when I’m feeling high or low (that took time to learn!) And, I know when the Doritos and such are getting out-of-whack. My body gives me signs. It’s up to me to rally with self-care. It’s up to me to find my balance.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, self-care is not cliché. It’s necessary. Caring for yourself is what allows for you to care for your people and priorities. An HSP who isn’t caring for themselves is a mess. Sorry not sorry. It’s true.

TAKE ACTION

Here's some easy action steps:

  • Add fruits and veggies to your grocery list.

  • Once they're in your home, wash and prep them.

  • Don’t have time right away? Schedule a time and get it done within 24 hours.

Take your self-care into your own hands. Restore your energy. Restore your peace. Make it easy.

With care,

Angela
