Four Easy Steps to Get You Unstuck

I’m about to give you some valuable self-coaching. Yes, I’m a life coach for hire who is giving you free tips for self-coaching. Why? It’s beneficial content for you and I can hardly help myself. So, here we go LOL.

Heads up, there are a number of ways to self-coach, only one of which I’m discussing in this article. It’s important to find a way that works for you. Since we’re not working together one-on-one, I can’t say that this way will be perfect for you, but it’s a great method to get started! With that, here’s an exercise to try.

For this self-coaching exercise, we’re talking about cycles. Namely, being stuck in them. If you find yourself stuck in a cycle, firstly, I’ll ask you to slow down and step back. Often, even when you know you’re stuck AND you want to break the cycle, you’ll continue the same behaviors that keep you where you are. To top it off, you’ll do this for reasons that you haven’t even realized (oh, hello, gremlins and limiting beliefs.)

Moving forward is a process of identifying where you want to go, why you want to go there (the WHY is so important, y’all), and then how you’ll get there. Coaching is a number one way of making that happen for you. Not ready to bring me on as a coach just yet? I understand, investing in yourself is a decision you need time to consider. In the meantime, ready to self-coach?! Grab a pen and paper and get ready to reflect.

Let’s do a walkthrough based on a cycle you feel stuck in.

Have something in mind?

Okay, let’s get to it…

Step one: What is a reoccurring undesirable feeling you have as a result of that cycle? Have you identified the root of where it’s coming from? (I have a root-tool that I use with my clients that I call “why-why-why-what.”)

Step two: Where do you want to go? How would you rather feel?

Step three: WHY do you want to go there? Why do you want to feel that way? (Here’s another great point to find the root of your why.) And how will your life look different when you achieve it? Spend some time envisioning this.

Step four: How will you get there? In small achievable steps, with a focus on a manageable and sustainable pathway, create a plan. IMPORTANTLY, how will you hold yourself accountable to your plan along the way? Lastly, how will you handle setbacks?

This self-coaching exercise is a solid approach to breaking unwanted cycles. Give it a try. I’d love to hear how it works for you and if you have feedback for the process. If you find you need a little nudge or help working through it, please reach out. Schedule a free 20-minute call with me to talk about where you are and how I can help.

Take care,

Angela
