For the love of reversals

Reversed Tarot cards. A debated topic in and out of the Tarot community. Some choose to not read them as reversed, some tolerate them, and others embrace them. They’re, well, complicated. And, also, not. Clear? LOL

Reversals have endured a less than favorable opinion by many for being negative or gloomy. However, I encourage those with that view to not judge a card by its direction. It’s important to understand that all Tarot cards (like all of life) have light and shade, regardless of position. And, reversals don’t have to mean the opposite of the upright position. Tarot readers read reversals via many methods. In many of my readings, while an opposite meaning can occur, reversals commonly come through as inner energies or potential blockages.

So, as you’ve now guessed, I do embrace reversals. I believe that they add a level of depth and increased insight to readings. Reading reversals allows for me to see the messages of 78 cards in at least 78 new ways.

Above is a layout image from an impactful reading I performed for a querent recently. I let them know from the get-go that their reading consisted of all reversed cards and what that meant for them. They were very appreciative of the explanation and it helped to put them at ease as we got into the reading. The reading unfolded into an insightful journey of perspective and solutions to see their situation differently. It introduced a level patience and understanding that they were having trouble seeing before the reading.

The messaging from Tarot never ceases to amaze me. Every reading different from the last, every card meaning shaping to the energy, each as different at the querent the reading is for. The cards depict a story, that I get to tell. And the more ways available to me, like reversals, to tell that story, the better.
